Worship at RPC
Worship Services
Worship services begin at 10:30 AM (except during July and August when services begin at 10:00 AM). Fellowship hour follows the service with coffee, juice and pastry in the auditorium.
The Worship Committee
The worship committee coordinates participation of congregation members as worship leaders at each service. If you would like to be a participant (offering the Call to Worship, reading the Old Testament Lesson, leading the Statement of Faith), please speak to Elder Shirley Hawkinson or call the Church Office.
Participate as a Leader During Worship
Guidelines for each portion of the service (Call to Worship, Affirmation of Faith, Old Testament reading) can be read here.
The Lectionary
The Lectionary is the name for Scripture readings (Old Testament, Psalms, Gospel and Epistles/Letters) assigned to each Sunday. These readings are chosen by the National Council of Churches and are used by most main-line Protestant congregations. The Lectionary is designed as a repeated 3-year cycle: emphasis on the Gospel of Matthew, Mark or Luke -- with the Gospel of John being chosen for particular Sundays. (The Lectionary in Roman Catholic services is very similar.) This year is Cycle C - Luke. Generally, though not always, Lectionary readings will be used in our services here at Riverdale.
