Committees at RPC
There are 10 committees at RPC whose collective mission is to serve the church through programs that enable members and friends to grow spiritually and to reach out beyond the walls of our church and community.
Worship Committee
Responsible for designing, planning, assistance in and evaluation of all aspects of worship services. This includes the music program, special services in the liturgical year, in ways that balance innovation, creativity and tradition. Responsible for Communion Server schedule.
Christian Education Committees (CE)
There are two Christian Education Committees at RPC: Church School Christian Education and Adult Christian Education.
The Church School CE Committee coordinates Sunday School for the children and youth. Members of the Sunday School CE committee meet regularly with the Sunday School teachers and organize volunteers for various Sunday School tasks. Church School Christian Education Committee co-chair is Elder Linda Alvarez-Cruz.
Adult CE oversees the development and implementation of programs such as weekly Bible study, Sunday Morning Book Group, The Thoughtful Christian, and 2007 Mission Yearbook readers. Adult CE Committee members often come to meetings with ideas for future CE programs. If you are interested in helping to shape the adult CE at RPC please do not hesitate to contact the chair or other members of the committee. Adult Christian Education Committee is chaired by Elder Myra Joyce.
Mission Committee
One of the major goals of the Mission Committee is to serve, mainly, the Bronx Community. However, we also respond to the needs of the larger community both local and international such as the victims of Katrina, the East Asian tsunami, and, more recently, the earthquakes in Pakistan.
We work with agencies and organizations that provide basic human needs, some of which are identified in this presentation. The Committee supports programs that aid the hungry, homeless and people with AIDS. We donate to programs that provide youth with educational services, help families in need, the elderly and offenders, as well as to programs of the Presbyterian Church, the New York Presbytery and the Synod.
The need to help others is very strong among the members of the Mission Committee: we enjoy helping others and this gives us a chance to help people on a much broader scale, including the World Community. We invite others to join us in this endeavor and make a difference. To learn more about the Mission Committee, please see our slide show.
